Being a “newbie” and not knowing what to look at next was a real challenge. Even while I was working on eBay, I had started looking at other “income making opportunities” on the internet. I don’t even remember where I started, but I got on a few peoples email lists and started getting information from them.

It is a shame that I waited this long to get into the internet business. I have a computer background. I was a programmer and network administrator for 20 years. Along the way several years ago, I moved to a small town without many computer-related jobs. When the company I was working for sold out and downsized, the job I was working was done away with. I ended up in an unrelated field and other than messing around with personal computers (and solving all my family and friends PC problems) I pretty much stayed out of the computer field for several years.

During that time was when the internet started taking off. I should have been paying attention!!

Anyway…I started browsing the internet and getting on email lists and learning whatever I could learn. I would recommend the same to any other newcomers. Get on a few mailing lists and start learning what it is all about. I would probably recommend AGAINST buying ANY products that people are advertising to you for a while until you get familiar with the internet in general and have a better idea of which direction you would like to go (there are many).

To start off with you should take advantage of all the free information that is available on the internet and (eventually) on this web site. There is more that you can get for free than you can imagine and more than you could process if you aren’t careful.

While I have been at this for a few months now. This is the first post in the blog about what we are going to call “The Journey”.

We started trying to make some income with the internet several months ago with eBay. I thought this would be a good starting point to get a little cash flow coming in to carry us while we were getting started. This didn’t turn out to be as easy (or as profitable) as I had thought it would be. I wanted something that could be an ongoing, repeatable source of income. Wanting to do this with little (if any) initial cash outlay, we eventually decided that finding a couple products that we could market via drop shipping would be the best path to take.

After a month or so of researching products and vendors, it became apparent to me that it would be very difficult to make any significant profit working in this area. Maybe it can be done, but I spent much time and effort and was very thorough in the research that I did! Almost any product that I could find was already being sold on eBay at a price that was too low for a profit to be made. Sometimes they were even being sold for LESS than what I could even buy them for!

We still dabble in eBay and it may be something that we will “add-on” to the other efforts that we are now working on. While this didn’t work out (no regular income coming in from it), at least we were “on the road”. We had begun our journey with our internet business.
